X-Cav 8 was a speculative concept proposal designed to offer a solution to ongoing issues within York City Centre especially parking problems. It also sought to address the potential need for expansion of an existing visitor attraction. The proposal suggested the repurposing of an existing tower block to answer car parking issues and provided landscaped gardens adjacent to an ancient scheduled monument. The X-Cav 8 building was envisioned to provide a new visitor attraction comprised of a museum focused on archeological artefacts with workshop space for digital and actual interactive archeological digs together with retail units and further multi-functional space and offices. The roof would be use to provide additional landscaped areas and views over the city and its living nature would further integrate the intervention within its important historic context.
