This scheme was submitted by Frontier Estates to the Pinders Healthcare Design Awards and was a finalist in 2022 for Best Architectural Design.
The care home is comprised of 70 residential en-suite bedrooms, associated ancillary amenities and dedicated on site car parking. The facility was designed in accordance with CQC requirements and well established care standards. The building was positioned to reduce overlooking and to afford privacy to residential occupants. The main entrance is central to the site with an adjacent open plan café area offering direct views and access to the main garden and each residential wing. Each wing includes a lounge and dining facility together with a nurse station and associated facilities. The fully accessible landscaped gardens contain seating, a sensory garden and an allotment area. Ground floor rooms have their own private terraces, segregated by small hedges to enhance a sense of ownership and additional privacy as required.
The proposed building was designed to enable all residential accommodation and amenity spaces to be provided on the ground and first floor with staff support facilities strategically located within the roof space. The building was sympathetically designed to complement the relevant site strengths and in respect to surrounding properties. The building was orientated and strategically positioned to enable the site to be used to its maximum potential in line with safety requirements such as emergency access.
The design intent was to enhance the area/community by providing additional and high quality care home accommodation to meet the growing demand of older individuals needing additional care. Resident experience and quality of life was at the forefront of the design which strives to promote community spirit, well being and security for all residents.
