This project involved combing two adjacent detached dwellings to re-establish the original plot. This was proposed through a 2 storey recessed under croft link between the dwellings. The ground floor link was set back to provide a drive for 2 car parking spaces and a kitchen to the rear, located centrally to fully connect the dwellings. The rear of the link is fully glazed to create views over the garden. The kitchen space is double height with a first floor galleried landing which will further connect the spaces across floors and between the two dwellings. The first floor of the link will have vaulted ceilings to enhance the spaces and introduce features such as exposed rafters to tie in with the existing internal features.
In addition to the link extension, the proposal hopes to address the incongruous fenestration to one of the existing buildings through cladding which references the site's previous outbuildings, making it more in keeping with the local context and giving both the appearance of one property. To establish a cohesive finish, dark timber cladding to create a barn style aesthetic with the existing brick plinth retained was proposed. An arch window was created at the ground floor level to enhance the barn-like appearance and to tie in with the access arrangements of neighbouring properties.
